PH to Enter All 8 Esports Titles in Asian Games 2022 Hangzhou

The Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) met with the Philippine Esports Organization and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) for the Road to Asian Games (RDAG) 2022 Program. 

The postponed Asian Games 2022 has been rescheduled for September 2023 due to rising COVID-19 cases in and around the host city of Hangzhou, China. For the first time in the history of the Asian Games, esports will be an official medal event. A total of 8 games, all medal events, will be featured, namely: PUBG Mobile (Asian Games version), Dota 2, Hearthstone, League of Legends, Dream of Three Kingdoms 2, FIFA, Street Fighter V, and Arena of Valor (Asian Games version).

“For the part of POC, we will make sure na mayroong entry ang sports on those eight games or disciplines. The deadline for entry is March next year, so definitely we will field all the eight games,”

Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino said.

“We know as of the moment that esports is becoming the sport of the youth, so I’m very happy that AESF and President Bambol are here. It means a lot,” Philippine Esports Organization (PESO) Executive Director Marlon Marcelo added.

AESF Chief Operating Officer Steve Kim shared the Olympic Values and Movement, which embodies the AESF goal of developing a healthier esports ecosystem:

  • Grassroot Development: the AESF will support the development and growth of esports in Asia.
  • Education Programs: the AESF will furnish courses through partnership programs with different universities in Asia and Europe.
  • Career Opportunities: the AESF will provide career pathways within the industry
  • Athlete’s Rights and Protection: the AESF will affirm the rights of the athletes’ to the highest possible standard.

From October 2022 until March 2023, the RDAG Regional 2022 Tournament will take place with the goal of promoting esports in Asia and garnering support from esports communities.

The vision of the AESF does not conclude with the Asian Games 2022, as they plan on making esports even more prominent especially in future Asian Games events Aichi-Nagoya 2026 and Doha 2030.
